Digital print prowess

I’ve been kind of jazzed about digital print since attending the Dscoop conference in Orlando (as reported here) and witnessing first-hand how excited so many of the attendees were about their business, even in this economy. It was a welcome relief from all the doom and gloom of the retail sector, my other big beat.

So when I recently received a press release highlighting how yet another printer is benefitting from embracing digital technology and automated workflow tools, I took notice.

The Gabriel Group, which offers print and mail production services for commercial mailers, advertising/direct marketing agencies and non-profits, has quadrupled its revenue during the past four years. Investment in technologies that help automate color matching and prepress file preparation helped fuel that growth, according to the company. Traditional offset printers aren’t having as good a time these days (see this article and this one).

Gabriel Group’s most recent additions include the Xerox iGen4 Press, FreeFlow Print Server, FreeFlow Process Manager and FreeFlow Makeready software applications as well as the ORIS Press Matcher Pro and ORIS Certified Proof solutions to automate the workflow.

“In competitive times, automated workflows are a necessity – you have to maximize productivity to stay viable,” said Bill Ziercher, chairman at Gabriel Group, in a statement. “Companies left standing five years from now will be those integrating digital technology with automated workflow.”

Gabriel Group eliminates steps in the production process by pairing Xerox digital technology and software with its proprietary G3 Marketing Solutions – a set of Web-accessible tools to help clients manage marketing assets.
