Weather Channel Adds Fitness Info to Web Site

The Weather Channel's weather.com site launched a new Fitness Planner yesterday aimed at the 33 million people it reaches who said they were interested in sports and fitness.

Available at www.weather.com/health, the Fitness Planner offers content to answer users' weather-related workout questions and how the climate will affect their plans and performance. The Fitness Forecast, for example, blends the forecasting experience of the Weather Channel's meteorologists with the users' preferred geographic location. This produces a desirability rating based on the optimal conditions to exercise outdoors.

The Fitness Forecast also helps users find an appropriate place to exercise by offering a list of local parks. It also suggests the best time to work out based on weather.com's hourly forecast.

In other efforts to become a fitness nanny, the site's Fitness Planner also boasts calculators to measure hydration, calories and heart rate. It gives advice on what to wear as well while working out. Mars Inc.'s Snickers Marathon energy bar brand through August is the sponsor of the Fitness Forecast.
