Ticketmaster has purchased Evite.com, a Web site that allows viewers to send invitations for events.

Ticketmaster gains Evite's self-reported 1 million monthly visitors in the deal. The ticket broker will use its new site's content as a cross-promotional venue for its ticket sales and for its community information site CitySearch.com.

"[Viewers] will be able to send invitations featuring concert, restaurant and other information all at the same time," said Kandus Kane, spokeswoman for Ticketmaster.

Kane said Evite will move its properties from its San Francisco headquarters to Ticketmaster's offices near Los Angeles. She said Evite CEO Josh Silverman might stay on after the transition is completed or "he may explore other options."

Financial terms of the deal were not announced.
