Snowball.com Shutters ChickClick Web Portal

Online entertainment network Snowball.com has closed its ChickClick.com portal for young women and girls.

"Unfortunately, because of the changes in the economy, we can no longer keep ChickClick up and running," a note on the Web site said.

The network is in the midst of shifting its focus to concentrate more on entertainment and gaming. Its IGN.com network, which specializes in content in this area, is Snowball.com's remaining property.

Snowball.com in late January sold its alumni Web site, www.highschoolalumni.com, to Los Angeles-based Reunion.com. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The company said the alumni site did not fit into its plans to cater to a younger audience.

"At Snowball, our focus is to capitalize on the leadership position of our flagship network, IGN.com," said Mark Jung, Snowball.com's chief executive officer, at the time of the HighSchoolAlumni.com sale.

ChickClick.com was created in February 1998 as an outlet for "hip, progressive women's sites to establish themselves as a unified advertising and editorial force." In addition to content, ChickClick.com offered free e-mail, home pages, instant messaging and other services.

Snowball.com offers its network affiliates impression-based advertising and sponsorships, permission-based marketing, custom publishing, e-commerce, e-mail marketing and content licensing.
