Search engine has abandoned text-based results, replacing them with visual screen shots of Web sites.

Rather than having about 10 text results per page, the new RedZee Search 2.0 enables users to fan through 100 Web page images, allowing them to preview search results faster, said Ryan Krupnick, VP of RedZee.

So far, everyone has just emulated Google's text-based search results, Krupnick said. Now, RedZee is offering search results in a different way.

By dragging a mouse over the images, a user can scroll through the Web pages and then click on the sites he or she wants to see close-up. “As far as we know RedZee is the first Search to exclusively use images as the result only,” Krupnick said. The company has a patent pending on image search, he added.

“It's faster to look than to read,” Krupnick said. “An image is worth a thousand words.”

Krupnick said that the new version of the site adds more value for advertisers and marketers. Because people are able to preview the Web site before they go there, the traffic marketers get is more qualified.

The sales ad model has yet to be fully developed since version 2.0 is still in beta, Krupnick said. Right now, there is no room for text-based ads on the engine. However, RedZee does offer the first three spots, which are highlighted in yellow, on a cost per click basis, he said.

The Tampa, Florida-based search engine has marketed itself as a “family-safe” alternative. Its mascot is an animated red and white zebra, which shakes its mane and hops above the search box on the entry page of the site. The search engine attracts approximately 20 million visitors per month from the United States and Canada, according to Krupnick.
