News Companies File Copyright Suit

The New York Times Co., The Washington Post Co. and several other news organizations have filed suit against an Internet company they claim has been transmitting stories to wireless phone users, according to reports.


The company, GoSMS.com, offers access to online content via short-test messaging services on digital cell phones. GoSMS.com takes the stories from the news organizations' Web sites and displays them 160 words at a time.


The news companies argue that the service violates copyright and trademark laws.


Other organizations filing suit include Gannett and CNN.
