New Report Disputes Online Ad Slowdown

A new AdRelevance study contradicts recent reports that online advertising has hit a brick wall.


According to the report, which was released yesterday, traditional advertisers accounted for about half of all new online advertising in October, an increase of 9 percent since January. Dot-com companies accounted for the other half.


The number of companies advertising on the Web has grown 157 percent over the past 10 months and is growing by about 14 percent per month, according to AdRelevance, Seattle, a company that tracks online advertising.


In the third quarter, 5,489 new advertisers went online, up from 3,879 in the second quarter. Among the top new online advertisers were Planet Project, Major League Soccer, Norelco and Saks Fifth Avenue.
