Takes a Shot at Content Marketing

Metacritic Inc., Incline Village, NV, recently launched its site,, which offers reviews and information on new music, film, video/DVD and video game releases.

The company is banking on generating an audience with its Metascores technology, which rates movies, albums and games in accordance to how they were reviewed by several critics and publications. Metascores are a weighted average of individual critic's reviews computed on a scale of 0 to 100. The ratings scale up for good reviews and down for bad ones.

Metacritic's core revenue channel will likely come from ad sales, although it also plans on striking referral-based affiliate deals with online retail companies. In addition, the company said it has plans to target wireless users as it recently signed an agreement with Avantgo, a wireless Internet service provider.
