Egarden, part of consumer products manufacturer U.S. Home and Garden, recently ceased operations as an online marketplace for the lawn and garden industry.

The site,, was designed to serve business-to-business buyers and sellers of garden-oriented products ranging from seeds to rat poison. However, the 4-year-old Web site launched as a business-to-consumer vendor before switching its business model in 1999. has its entire operations for sale as a package, said Linda Watson, president of the Raleigh, NC-based firm. Watson said this includes its Web domain name, Oracle e-business software, a Sun server, office space and proprietary garden-oriented content.

"We'd like to sell it all at once," she said. "But if that doesn't happen soon enough, we will liquidate everything."
