ComScore Pays $1.5M for Jupiter's Media Metrix Division

ComScore Networks Inc. announced yesterday that it paid $1.5 million to financially troubled Internet consultancy Jupiter Media Metrix for its Media Metrix Internet audience measurement division in the United States and Canada.


The sale comes nearly two months after Jupiter sold its AdRelevance online advertising measurement unit to rival NetRatings Inc., Milpitas, CA, for $8.5 million. As part of the Media Metrix sale, some of Jupiter's employees will transfer to comScore. Retaining its name, Media Metrix will absorb comScore's Media Solutions division and also include the acquiring firm's AiM and netScore online audience measurement services.


Peter Daboll, president of comScore's Media Solutions division, will now be president of Media Metrix. A separate office in New York will be opened to house the division.


News of the sale comes the same day that comScore announced it had received $20 million in Series D funding. The Reston, VA, company now is capitalized at $76 million. This latest round of funding helped comScore pay for the Media Metrix acquisition.
