Bigfoot Plans Spam Summit

E-mail service provider Bigfoot Interactive announced yesterday it would hold an industry meeting to discuss the implications of the Senate's recently passed CAN-SPAM Act of 2003.

The meeting will be Nov. 13 in New York City, with panels on deliverability and recent legislation at the state and federal levels. California's new anti-spam law is to take effect Jan. 1. The House of Representatives is debating its own version of a federal bill.

Panelists will include a lawyer in the office of Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY, who lobbied for the inclusion of a do-not-spam registry in the CAN-SPAM Act. The meeting also will include representatives from the Direct Marketing Association and Federal Trade Commission.

Bigfoot said it would release results of a consumer survey at the summit that shows how spam has affected e-mail behavior.
