Auto, Finance Sites See Traffic Boost

Web sites dealing with automobiles and finance saw a sharp jump in traffic in the first week of the new year, along with airline, health, news and computer sites, according to Media Metrix Inc., New York.


Among the Web destinations that gained the most daily unique visitors compared with the three weeks prior were car sites Edmunds.com and Kbb.com, which saw gains of 183 percent and 70 percent, respectively. Other leading gainers included Webmd.com, Wellsfargo.com, Schwab.com, Intuit.com and Smartmoney.com.


Media Metrix noted that financial sites making gains in the first week of January represented a broad cross-section of money issues, including banking, tax, investing and business news. The online audience measurement firm speculated that people turned back to their finances as the holiday shopping season eased off.
