Ask Jeeves' Net Income Jumps 162 Percent

Ask Jeeves reported that its sales and profits rose sharply in the second quarter due to its acquisition of Interactive Search Holdings and its advertising relationship with Google.

Sales for the quarter totaled $60.3 million, a 136 percent increase from last year's second quarter. Net income was $11.6 million, representing a 162 percent jump.

The Emeryville, CA, search engine benefited from the addition of search site brands iWon, My Way, My Search and My Web Search through the ISH acquisition, which closed in May. Ask Jeeves' sales growth was fueled by Google's paid listings that the company shows on topof its own algorithmic search results. Ask Jeeves and Google earlier this week renewed their search partnership through 2007.

Ask Jeeves said it had 1.6 billion queries in the second quarter, down 7 percent from the first quarter. It attributed the downturn to decreases in Internet use and searches during the summer.
