Digimarc Signs On 130 Magazines

Digimarc Corp., Tualatin, OR, has developed partnerships with more than 130 magazines including Good Housekeeping, In Style, GQ and People. The deals will allow the magazines' readers to use Digimarc's technology, which will enable their computer's digital camera or scanner to take them directly to a corresponding Web page.

The technology, dubbed MediaBridge, inserts a proprietary watermark on a magazine's page. Proprietary software converts the watermark into a URL when the image is read by a camera or scanner, and launches the user's Internet browser.

MediaBridge is designed to work with any printed material, including direct mail pieces, credit cards and catalogs. The company plans to sign up catalogers to use its technology, but it has not begun pursuing them yet.

Digimarc is set to unveil MediaBridge in the July issue of Wired magazine.
