Digimarc, Printing Industries of America Partner to Provide Watermarks

Digimarc Corp., Tualatin, OR, a digital watermark technology and applications vendor, signed an agreement with the Printing Industries of America, the world's largest graphic arts association, to provide Digimarc MediaBridge watermarking technology to PIA member printers.

The agreement, announced yesterday, allows more than 10,000 commercial printers nationwide to access digital watermark technology at a discount.

This technology allows individual printers to embed Digimarc's

digital watermarks in printed materials during pre-press file preparation, enabling materials such as annual reports, company brochures and business cards to link directly to targeted Web destinations.

Digimarc MediaBridge reader software allows consumers to access the Web by showing digitally watermarked materials to an image-capture device, such as a Web camera or scanner attached to their computers. When the attached device reads the digital code in Digimarc-enabled content, the software launches a browser, instantly connecting the user to opportunities to learn more and buy directly on the Internet. A "D" symbol on the printed material indicates an Internet-enabled page.

Digimarc MediaBridge launched earlier this year and can now be found in publications such as Popular Mechanics, Smart Money and Good Housekeeping.
