DHL Opens Memphis Sort Center

DHL opened a regional sort center in Memphis, TN, the global express delivery and logistics company said Sept. 15.

The facility is the third of seven regional sort centers to be added to DHL's network over the next two months as part of a $1.2 billion investment launched by DHL in June.

DHL, Plantation, FL, which is 100 percent owned by Deutsche Post World Net, has announced the opening of centers in Denver and Salt Lake City.

DHL is investing $3 million in the 23,060-square-foot Memphis center. It will give DHL an expanded footprint for one-day ground services to parts of Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi and Kentucky and will handle various shipments including letter and parcel items, palletized and container freight.

The new sort centers will increase DHL's ground delivery product capacity 60 percent. By the end of 2004, DHL's expanded ground network will include 19 regional sort centers and more than 7,950 truck runs per week.
