DHL Expects Daily Shipment Volume to Increase 6% in December

DHL said it expects to see its average daily shipment volume increase 6 percent this month to more than 1.9 million packages. The carrier also anticipates its peak pickup day to be Dec. 15, when it expects to pick up 2.3 million packages from customers across the United States.

DHL's peak delivery day is expected to be Dec. 19, when it said it will handle 2.3 million pieces through its U.S. transportation network for final delivery. This is a 15 percent increase over last year.

This holiday season, the Plantation, FL-based company expects nearly 5 million shipment requests to originate online from www.dhl-usa.com. In addition, it expects customers to make 13 million online tracking requests during the holiday shipping season. The company is adding 510 daily truck routes to its ground line haul operations, an increase of 14 percent over ground line haul operations during the remainder of the year.

DHL expects that the increase in customer shipment volumes between Thanksgiving and Christmas will require adding 38 new domestic flights each week.
