D&B Names Alesio Chief Executive

D&B named Steven W. Alesio as its chief executive, the business information, services and research company said yesterday.


Alesio succeeds Allan Z. Loren, who remains board chairman until May. He then leaves the board, and Alesio becomes chairman. The announcement concludes the first phase of the succession plan outlined last May when Loren announced his intention to retire from D&B in May 2005.


Alesio joined D&B in January 2001 as senior vice president. He was named president and chief operating officer in May 2002, at which time he was also elected to D&B's board of directors.


Before joining D&B, Alesio spent 19 years in marketing and general management with American Express, serving in executive positions in the Business Services and Consumer Travel groups.


Loren served as both chairman and chief executive since joining the company in May 2000. D&B, Short Hills, NJ, had 2003 sales of $1.39 billion.


In October, the company said it would cut 750 jobs as part of a $180 million agreement with IBM Corp. to manage certain portions of its data acquisition and delivery, customer service and financial processes.
