Nike, Hearst to Launch Michael Jordan Magazine

The Hearst Corp. next month will publish and distribute the first issue of Jordan -- a magazine dedicated to basketball star Michael Jordan -- commissioned by Nike Inc., according to Hearst.


Hearst revealed little about the publication except that it will debut in February on newsstands and also be mailed to a list maintained by Nike. It also said that the target audience is males ages 16 to 21.


Two issues will be published in 2002, and four are planned for 2003, according to Hearst.


Reportedly, the magazine's main purpose is as a branding vehicle for Nike's Jordan Brand.


Neither Hearst nor Nike returned calls for comment.
