LAS, a maker of name recognition technology, announced yesterday the availability of LAS NameInspector, software designed to help organizations assess the quality and characteristics of the names in their databases.

The software also provides data hygiene and targeted marketing support, the Herndon, VA, company said.

LAS NameInspector relies on the name recognition software used by intelligence agencies and the military, providing database administrators with the only knowledge-based tools created for this task.

Organizations get coverage based on nearly 1 billion names globally. Results are coupled with statistical information to make the most of data-driven activities. Database administrators no longer need assume that every name in a defined universe is of the same culture or be limited by ZIP code-based cultural identifiers.

NameInspector performs these strategic functions:

· Easily discovers areas in data that may need improvement.

· Identifies errors in data entry, such as mismatched fields.

· Uncovers ambiguous or rare names to determine which ones have the highest possibility of being misspelled.

· Ensures smooth integration with other data-driven systems.

· For gender and culture, it provides distribution data, letting an organization understand its data better and possibly uncover new avenues for targeted marketing.
