Kroger Allies With Upromise for College Savings

Share this content:
Grocery chain Kroger Co. has formed an alliance with Brookline, MA-based Upromise Inc. in which consumers can contribute to their Upromise college savings accounts when they buy leading brands from Kroger-owned stores nationwide.

Brands like Coca-Cola Co., Keebler, Kimberly-Clark Corp., Procter & Gamble Co., Nestle Ice Cream, Welch's and Kellogg Co. are among 13 marketers that will automatically contribute 3 percent to 5 percent of the purchase price into a Upromise member's account.

To participate, consumers register their shopper's card on Kroger.com or upromise.com. Enrolling in Upromise is free and there are no coupons or receipts involved. Families track their contributions via purchase summaries posted online in their Upromise account.

The Kroger contributions will be in addition to assorted store specials and manufacturers' coupons.

Based in Cincinnati, OH, Kroger has more than 2,400 supermarkets and department stores nationwide under names like Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Fry's, Dillon and Food 4 Less. It also operates 789 convenience stores, 427 fine jewelry stores, 227 supermarket fuel centers and 41 food processing plants.
