ComScore Buys PC Data's Client List

ComScore Networks, Reston, VA, has bought the client base list of its one-time rival, PC Data Online, and plans to offer the defunct company's 300 clients liberal use of its expanded services at no added charge.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

PC Data, which announced its closing this week, said it has also agreed to sell off other assets to ComScore, which monitors online surfing and buying behavior.

Friday's deal capped what proved to be a busy week for PC Data. The company settled an infringement lawsuit with Jupiter Media Matrix and said it will leave the Web ratings business.

ComScore executives said that PC Data clients choosing to accept their offer would experience no interruption of service or change in price for the duration of their contracts.

"Essentially, we are giving them a very generous proposition," said Magid M. Abraham, president/CEO of ComScore.

The company offered clients the new service through an e-mail invitation.

ComScore officials said they plan to try to sell some of their added services to PC Data's other former clients, such as data from Internet use at schools and businesses, profiles of users' activity according to demographics, and reports on consumer purchases on the Web

The deal also calls for ComScore to acquire PC Data's contracts to supply data to print publications. At its height, PC Data's information was collected from just 120,000 computers, compared with the more than 1 million tracked by ComScore.

Earlier in the month, ComScore formed a partnership with DoubleClick to create a suite of online audience-measurement products. The first product of the partnership is NetScore, a service based on ComScore's research panel of more than 1.5 million opt-in names.
