DaimlerChrysler Launches New E-Commerce Dealer Sites

DaimlerChrysler yesterday launched the first of 2,100 transactional Web sites that will integrate with the company's corporate database. Consumers will be able to research current pricing, incentives, new and used car inventories and financing through the sites.

DaimlerChrysler launched the sites with its Five Star Dealers in Seattle, Portland, OR and in the Baltimore/Washington area. Five Star dealers are ones that excel at customer service.

"We'll have the ability to move information from an engineer's desk, though our dealers' business systems, all the way to the consumers living room and back again," said Gary E. Dilts, senior vice president of DaimlerChrysler's eConnect unit. "If a change is made relative to pricing, incentives or financing, for example, it is communicated on a real-time basis directly to the consumer. It definitely raises the standard for online car and truck shopping."
