Credit Card Marketer Agrees to Court Order
Platinum Universal, Hollywood, FL, and its successor entity, Pulsar Data, used outbound telemarketing and direct response broadcast and Internet ads to offer consumers credit cards for fees of $99 to $200, according to the FTC. The "Universal MasterCards," which consumers were told had credit limits of up to $2,500, never arrived, the FTC said.
Some consumers who paid the fee received prepaid debit cards that could be refilled, the FTC said. Others got instructions on how to obtain the debit cards, or received nothing, according to the FTC.
Neither Platinum Universal nor Pulsar Data, which also did business as Universal Card Services, had listings in Hollywood, FL. A court-appointed monitor has been assigned to keep tabs on the activities and assets of the companies and their principals.
