Convergys Opens Call Center in India

Teleservices provider Convergys Corp. has expanded its overseas call-center capabilities with the opening of its first facility in India, the company said yesterday.

The call center is in the town of Gurgaon, a suburb of the capital city of New Delhi. Convergys claimed that the call center, with a capacity of 1,900 seats, is the largest owned by a U.S. company in India.

In addition to traditional voice teleservices, the call center will support e-mail and Web chat communications. The facility will be linked to Convergys' wide-area network of teleservices centers, letting the company use the same software and equipment, such as automatic-call distribution hardware, as it does in its call centers throughout the world.

Cincinnati-based Convergys operates 46 call centers in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Israel and Europe. The company employs 44,000 people worldwide.
