Compaq, RadioShack, Microsoft Form Web Alliance

Compaq, RadioShack and Microsoft last week formed a strategic alliance to accelerate the adoption of Web technologies by combining their strengths.

The companies agreed to deliver MSN services in a one-step process at RadioShack stores through a pre-installed Web portal branded and operated by the three companies.

Consumers will be able to sign up for MSN or the recently introduced Compaq.Net customized version of MSN when they boot up their Compaq Presario Internet PC.

The tri-branded Web portal, or entry Web page, is an exclusive feature of the Compaq PresarioCreative Learning Series sold at only RadioShack and will feature links to consumer-oriented Compaq, RadioShack and MSN Web sites, where customers will have direct access to additional support, including updates on technology, upgrades and special promotions.

The three companies also will undertake joint marketing and advertising campaigns.
