Intelligence tools provider Cognos, Burlington, MA, recently debuted Cognos PowerPlay 6.0, the newest version of its online analytical processing product.


PowerPlay 6.0 lets users monitor business performance by tracking and analyzing reports. Improved reporting features in the 6.0 version include rich report formatting options and the ability to add calculated and dynamic categories. Other features include new formatting options and the ability to embed calculated categories in PowerCubes. This allows for return-on-investment profitability to be included into OLAP reports. Report authors also will be able to create logical subsets of categories within the OLAP cube resulting in generalized and calculated categories.


Cognos said the 6.0 version is specifically enhanced for enterprise OLAP reporting solutions. Through its multidimensional representation of data it lets business managers "slice and dice" and analyze data by various dimensions or factors.
