Cognitronics: Screening Tests a Success

Laboratory tests of a new call-screening system by Cognitronics were successful, the company said.

An unspecified major telecommunications service provider conducted the analysis for Cognitronics, Danbury, CT. Field trials were expected to begin by the end of May.

The screening system asks callers to identify themselves prior to ringing a consumer's line. The consumer can accept or reject the call, send it to a voice mail system or return a request to be placed on the telemarketer's do-not-call list.

Such services are currently available from local telephone service providers in some U.S. regions.
