CNN Launches Site for Teens, Teachers

CNN Interactive has launched CNNfyi.com, a news and education site targeted at high school students and teachers.

The students' area of the site features sections designed to help students prepare for college, find part-time jobs and do homework. In addition, there will be a section that offers news stories produced and reported worldwide by students. These stories will come from CNN's other educational programs, including Newsroom and Student Bureau.

CNN Interactive, a subdivision of Time Warner Inc., has signed marketing/content agreements with high school education-related firms Riverdeep Interactive Learning Ltd., Harcourt Inc. and HighWired.com Inc. They will have a link at CNNfyi.com, although other terms of the deals were not disclosed.

CNNfyi.com's teacher section provides classroom activities that revolve around the day's top news stories, as well as curriculum-based lesson plans for all major subject areas. News stories and subjects are divided into specific subjects at the site.

The Web site does not require registration or a subscription fee and there will be no advertising at the site, according to Jane Tronnier, spokeswoman at CNN Interactive, Atlanta.
