Cingular Wireless Offers Mobile Postcards
Cingular Wireless now lets customers use their cell phones with cameras to create personalized Fujifilm photo postcards and send them to anyone in the country via U.S. mail directly from their compatible Cingular phone, the St. Louis company said last month.The photo postcard application for wireless phones, called Mobile Postcards, results from a partnership between Cingular and Fuji Photo Film USA Inc. The Fujifilm mobile imaging application was developed in conjunction with Summus, a provider of mobile media applications.
To use the service, customers select a postcard design and a photo from their phone, add a personal message, address it and press "send" to mail it wirelessly through the U.S. Postal Service. A postcard will be mailed to the addressee.
To download the postcard application directly from a phone, customers log in to the Wireless Internet, select What's Hot from the main menu and click on Mail a Postcard. After the initial download, consumers can access the postcard application under the Games and Apps section of their phone.
Cell phone handsets that support the photo postcards include the Motorola V551, V220, V3, V400 and V600. More handset models will be added.
The cost to create and mail the postcard is $1.99 each, with postage included. The charge is billed to customers' monthly Cingular phone bills.
