Chinese Telecom Installs Convergys Software

Convergys Corp. said yesterday that it has completed its first product deployment in the People's Republic of China.

The project involved integrating the company's Infinys software with China Unicom's billing platform across 17 different network types in multiple cities. Cincinnati-based Convergys will also support provisioning subscribers on new network elements and service offerings as they are introduced.

The 10-year-old China Unicom is the only integrated telecommunications operator in the People's Republic of China. According to Convergys, China Unicom is the second-largest wireless carrier in China and the third-largest wireless carrier in the world.

"This software allows us to integrate our complex networks, have the ability to support new network elements, and tailor our service offerings to meet the needs of our more than 10 million subscribers," said Robert Xiang, project director of China Unicom's Guangdong branch.
