Chico's Sales, Income Soar

Skyrocketing net sales and net income characterized results for Chico's FAS Inc., Fort Myers, FL, as it posted results yesterday for its fiscal first quarter ended May 1.


Net sales climbed 52 percent to a record $257 million from $169 million in the quarter ended May 3, 2003. Net income increased 52.6 percent to $36 million from $23 million.


Also, comparable-store sales for company-owned stores rose 20.1 percent for the recently concluded 13-week period.


The company's direct marketing operations also improved. Net sales generated by its catalog and Internet segment increased from $5.68 million a year ago to $6.08 million.
