Chevrolet hired Christopher Perry as its VP of marketing on August 20. Perry joined Chevy after serving in the same role at Hyundai Motor America since April.

Perry replaces Jim Campbell, who will take over as Chevy's VP of performance vehicles and motorsports.

Perry's responsibilities will include overseeing all marketing efforts, including building the brand, launching products and promoting products.

“[Perry] has a great track record building brands, launching products,” said Pat Morrissey, chief director for communications at General Motors. “What this is really all about is taking a look at our biggest brand, Chevrolet, which is 65% to 70% of GM's overall volume.”

Perry, 50, who spent nearly 10 years at Hyundai in a variety of marketing and advertising positions, will report to Joel Ewanick, VP of marketing at GM. Perry also served under Ewanick at Hyundai and replaced him as VP of marketing there.

That familiarity played a factor in Perry's hiring, Morrissey said.

“The fact that [Perry] has a history and has a close working relationship with Joel [played a role], Joel knows the skills and talent that Chris brings to this job,” Morrissey said.
