Charity focused search engine GoGoQuick.com launches

GoGoQuick.com, a new search engine that enables people to donate to charity as they search, launched in beta on February 29 with a stated goal of helping the world “one click at a time.”

For every click on the site's ads, GoGoQuick.com will donate 50% of that revenue to charity, said Darian Gray, owner of Los Angeles-based Quick Digital Global, which developed the search engine.

“It started off just as an idea to offer more or less localized search for small businesses,” he said. “As we got deeper into development we decided to take it a few steps further and additional work was done on search features that offer more of a broad search.”

In addition to general Web search, GoGoQuick.com allows people to search within categories such as images, videos, music, recipes and shopping. The site also allows users to download a GoGoQuick.com toolbar.

GoGoQuick.com joins the ranks of other search engines with an altruistic focus, such as GoodSearch.com and MagicTaxi.com, as well as the UK-based Everyclick.com. Like GoGoQuick.com, these sites donate 50% of their advertising revenues to charity.  However, unlike GoGoQuick.com, these sites are powered by external engines like Yahoo or Ask.com.

According to the company, GoGoQuick.com utilizes its Quick Rank algorithm to identify the “most authoritative sites on the Web” in order to provide relevant results. A recent search for videos pulled up clips from the site Truveo.com, while a shopping search yielded results from Amazon.com and Shop.com.

“What we're most excited about is the ability we have to donate to charities,” Gray said. Right now the site's focus is on environmental, animal, wildlife, educational, cancer and other health-related charities. “We also give people the ability to submit charities to us for review to be added to the pool of charities that we donate to on a monthly basis,” he said.
