CD-Shopping Phone Service Hits San Francisco

*CD began offering its music-related telephone services yesterday in the San Francisco Bay area on Pacific Bell wireless.

By dialing *CD on their telephones, listeners can find out the name of a song just played on the radio. Callers then can hear samples from other songs on the same compact disc, scan other songs the station has recently played and order music.

The service also is available in Philadelphia. The company plans to expand into the top 30 radio markets in the country by the end of the year.
