Catalog Sales Up, Web Down for Sharper Image

Sharper Image Corp.'s catalog sales rose 40 percent to $21.8 million in second quarter 2001 compared to the second quarter of 2000 when the total was $15.6 million, the company said yesterday.


Internet sales fell 7 percent to $9.9 million compared to last year's second quarter total of $10.6 million. However, Internet sales, excluding auction-winning bids, increased 18 percent for the second quarter.


Sharper Image reported total revenues of $82.8 million compared to last year's $82.5 million second quarter fiscal results.


Sharper Image had a second quarter net loss of $3.7 million, or $0.31 per share, compared to last year's net income of $1.2 million, or $0.09 per diluted share.


The San Francisco-based company, which employs about 1,600 people, operates about 100 stores in 29 states and the District of Columbia. It mails more than 60 million catalogs annually.
