Caswell-Massey sold to another investment firm

Investment firm The Equitium Group has acquired Caswell-Massey, one of the oldest American apothecaries and perfumers.

Caswell-Massey, which was founded in 1752 in Newport, RI, uses traditional methods for producing soaps, lotions, fragrances and other personal care items. Its products are sold through stand-alone retail stores in the US, department stores, the Internet and via one of the country's longest-standing catalogs. Today, the company is based in Edison, NJ.

Miami-based The Equitium Group, which focuses on the health and beauty arena as well as luxury products and services industries, purchased Caswell-Massey from BFMA Holdings, a Pompano Beach, FL-based investment firm, which had acquired the brand in 2003.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Equitium Groupábelieves Caswell-Massey will provide "an excellent platform for further investments in the luxury sector," said Anthony Nichtawitz, managing partner at The Equitium Group, in a statement.
