Carriers Unsure When Air Shipping Will Resume

Major shippers on Tuesday couldn't indicate when they would resume air shipping because of orders by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Pam Roberson, spokeswoman for FedEx, Memphis, TN, said her company -- for the time being -- was rerouting U.S. air packages to ground shipping in cases where that method would accomplish delivery in decent time.

The FAA is restricting FedEx and other carriers such as the U.S. Postal Service and United Parcel Service from employing air delivery. The FAA was not available for comment on when the stall would end.

Meanwhile, the USPS closed its Washington offices in lieu of the terrorist attacks, and a spokewoman said the agency "is in a state of emergency."
