Captaris Adds Opt-Out Feature

Captaris Inc. has added a feature called Subscribes & Unsubscribes to its MediaLinq Web-based e-mail and fax delivery service.

The feature allows marketers to offer their audience the chance to opt out of e-mail and fax lists. Clients will be able to implement the feature as they prepare to send their campaigns to a Web page hosted by Captaris. They also can track campaign results at the page.

"People are getting irritated because of the large amounts of e-mail they receive but didn't solicit," said David Sohm, president of the San Francisco-based firm. "[This] way you're getting your messages sent only to the people that want to receive them."

Captaris, formerly AVT Corp., enlists its MediaLinq division to target financial centers, travel agencies, entertainment companies, publishing firms and industry associations.

MediaLinq can manage clients' databases and documents and apply them to its e-mail and fax technology, which can send more than 100,000 messages simultaneously. Clients also can choose to manage their own files and send them to MediaLinq. The service offers the ability to resend returned e-mail and faxes automatically.

Companies can expect to spend 7 cents to 10 cents per message sent, though pricing scales down based on the volume of a campaign.
