Valassis calls consumers to act on missing child cases

Media, direct mail and couponing company Valassis will place missing child-awareness posters, each with a call to action, in 33,000 post offices across the US. The posters highlight the 25th anniversary of the company's "Have you seen me?" campaign, conducted with the US Postal Service.

The Direct Marketing Association named Robert Allen, former president and CEO of the Vermont Country Store, its interim president and CEO effective February 5. He will fill the role while the trade group searches for a permanent replacement for John Greco, who resigned as president and CEO last month.

2009 was not kind to most retailers and there were very few positive stories when it came to sales results. A rising unemployment rate and a drop in consumer confidence both weighed heavily on consumer spending the entire year, and with the unemployment rate still at 10% for December, we'll see this trend continue for at least the next few months. But the news is not all bad.
