Cannes Lions Changes Show Dates

The International Advertising Festival, also known as the Cannes Lions, will hold its 50th anniversary awards next year June 15-21 instead of June 22-28 as previously announced.

A statement from the London-based organizer blamed "unforeseen technical problems" for the altered schedule. The awards will be held at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France.

Delegate registration desks will open June 14. Festival screenings and activities begin at 9 a.m. the next day, through the closing award ceremony and gala evening June 21. Awards for disciplines like direct marketing, film, press, outdoor, cyber and media will be held that week. It is typical to showcase 17,000 ads during the festivities.

This time, direct will be incorporated into the main festival. The 2002 format placed the Lions Direct awards after the advertising awards, something that did not go down well with many agencies and attendees.
