Cable Provider Tests Customized Ads

Cable television provider National Cable Communications begins tests this month with two media providers to offer customized advertising based on factors such as geographic selectivity and programming content.

The advertising will use the IntelliSpot system from Visible World, a new-media service provider, and SeaChange, a provider of digital video systems that enable cable operators to provide on-demand services.

Testing begins in Albany, NY, via NCC's CableLink Interconnects division. In January, this capability will be made available in six other CableLink markets including Buffalo, Cleveland and Hartford, CT.

The three companies said that by the end of January advertisers will have access to all 4 million CableLink homes. A number of national brand advertisers have committed to the full market campaign beginning in January, the companies said.
