Business Objects Buys Acta

Business intelligence solutions provider Business Objects has agreed to acquire Acta Technology Inc., a privately held supplier of data extraction, transformation and loading software.


The acquisition was a cash transaction of about $65 million for all shares of Acta Technology, Mountain View, CA. Business Objects expects the deal to be completed in the third quarter of 2002. It has been approved by the board of directors of each company and is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions. Business Objects expects the acquisition to be accretive to earnings beginning in 2003.


Not all 125 Acta employees will be offered jobs; those who are will be relocated to Business Objects' U.S. headquarters in San Jose, CA.


The deal gives Business Objects the tools to extract data from operational applications from developers such as PeopleSoft or SAP and move it to a data mart or data warehouse for analysis.
