Brookstone Reports Earnings Up in Fourth Quarter, FY 1999

Online and offline cataloger Brookstone Inc., Nashua, NH, yesterday announced increased earnings for fourth quarter and fiscal year 1999. The innovative tool marketer reported a 19.9 percent increase in net income to $22.4 million, or $2.64 per diluted share, as compared to a net income of $18.7 million, or $2.25 per diluted share for the four quarter of 1998. Direct marketing sales in the fourth quarter increased 59.8 percent to $25.2 million, with Internet sales increasing 980.1 percent to $3.9 million compared to $.4 million last year.


For fiscal year 1999, ending Jan. 29, 2000, Brookstone's net income increased 42.5 percent to $13.3 million, or $1.58 per diluted share, compared to net income of $9.3 million, or $1.13 per diluted share for fiscal 1998. Direct marketing sales increased 72.7 percent to $50.2 million, with Internet sales increasing 643.7 percent to $4.2 million compared to $.6 million in 1998.
