Bombay Reports Growing Net Loss

The Bombay Company Inc., Fort Worth, TX, reported yesterday that its net loss in the company's first quarter totaled $8 million compared with a net loss of $5.7 million last year.

It also said revenue for the quarter ended April 30 totaled $122.1 million versus $123.6 million for the year-ago period. Also, same-store sales dropped 5 percent for the 13-week period.

Due to softness in the multichannel home furnishings marketer's Internet and mail-order business, revenue from non-store activity amounted to 7 percent of revenue for the quarter compared with 10 percent for the first quarter of last year.
