Blockbuster partners with Motorola

Blockbuster has partnered with Motorola to distribute movies on select Motorola handsets. The new partnership follows Blockbuster's strategy to compete with Netflix and move more into the digital realm.

“It continues our strategy of looking for strategic partnership and alliances to create digital distribution and extend our brand to more channels,” said Randy Hargrove, a spokesperson for Blockbuster. “It's one more way of being where the consumer is.”

Select Motorola phones will include the Blockbuster OnDemand application where consumers can rent or purchase films or TV shows. Hargrove did not say which phones or when they would be released.

Other digital deals struck by Blockbuster include partnerships with TiVo and Samsung. “We need to be in all places that people want to watch movies,” added Hargrove.
