Atento, Avaya in Multinational Call Center Pact

Multinational call center operator Atento said yesterday it sealed an agreement with Avaya, the call center systems group that will be spun off from Lucent Technologies later this year, to develop call centers in eight countries. The Web-enabled call centers, which will use Avaya's CentreVu Internet Solutions, are scheduled to open by year-end in Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Spain and Morocco.

In a separate agreement, Avaya, Basking Ridge, NJ, also will install call center solutions for Atento in Argentina, Venezuela, Italy and Tangiers later this year.

With the new facilities, Atento will have about 30,000 call center agents, 8,000 of whom will be accessible through the Internet. Atento, Miami, is a subsidiary of Spain's Telefonica S.A.
