ATA Negotiating for Long-Distance Service

The American Teleservices Association, Washington, has begun negotiating with a major long-distance telephone carrier to provide long-distance telephone service to ATA members at a deeply discounted rate, ATA spokesman Bill Miklas said Friday.

"It's one of the first things we wanted to try to do for our members," he said.

Miklas is part of the team of board members who took over management of the ATA on an interim basis late last year before they hired an outside management firm last month.

He declined to name the long-distance carrier and said it was too early in the negotiations to speculate when such a service might begin.

In other ATA news, the association secured a location for its spring legislative conference, which will take place May 7 to 9 in Washington. The association also recently sent requests for bids to hotels in Las Vegas seeking a location to host the ATA fall conference, which is tentatively scheduled for September.
