Ask Jeeves Q4 Revenue, Net Profit Rise

Ask Jeeves Inc. announced fourth-quarter revenue last week of $22.7 million, up from $15.4 million in the comparable year-ago quarter and $17.8 million in the third quarter.


Fourth-quarter net profit was $2 million. The company had a net profit of $1.3 million in the comparable year-ago quarter and a net loss of $4.4 million in the third quarter.


Revenue for the full 2002 fiscal year was $74.1 million, up from $66.6 million in 2001. The company had a net loss for 2002 of $21.3 million. Ask Jeeves lost $425.3 million in 2001, which included a $355.3 million charge for the write-off of goodwill and other intangible assets associated with prior acquisitions.


Web Properties revenue was $19 million in the fourth quarter, up from $14.7 million in the third. Web Properties includes the company's Ask Jeeves Web site and the syndication of monetized search technology to affiliate partners. The company attributed much of the gain to increased sales of its premium advertising products, strong performance of paid listings and record revenue from Ask Jeeves UK.


Revenue for Jeeves Solutions, the company's enterprise software business, totaled $3.7 million in the fourth quarter compared with $3.1 million in the third.
