In Circulation: Foodie mags adapt to reflect times

A recent article in Women's Wear Daily noted that food-focused magazines, such as Bon Appetit and Food & Wine, are making changes to their editorial to better fit the current economic climate. The titles - long a stronghold for the fine wine and black truffle luxury markets - now have features on "budget" recipes, cheap substitutes for expensive foodstuffs, and wine lists that top out at $20 a bottle. But will it pay to tweak the brands in this manner?
 

Out with the old, in with the new for Hearst

In a move sure to bring some teens to tears, Hearst Magazines announced it would close down CosmoGirl! with its December issue due to rising costs and shrinking ad page numbers. Founded by Atoosa Rubenstein in 2000, the magazine has fought the tide of teen magazine closures over the past couple of years, including Teen People and ElleGirl in 2006.
 

Success readies women's bi-monthly

Success for Women, an offshoot of the year-old Success, has hit newsstands with a soft launch. Bookstores nationwide will distribute 50,000 copies of the women's title as a special issue of Success, and another 17,000 copies will be distributed to attendees of this month's Women's Conference in Long Beach, CA.
 

New magazine for Mac users grows from Web site

MacTribe, a new magazine for Mac owners and enthusiasts, will launch in the US and Canada on October 15. The magazine, published eight times a year with an initial circulation of 45,000, grew out of a three-year-old Web site of the same name.
 

Men's Vogue adds section, ups rate base

Men's Vogue has added a new editorial section and will increase its rate base to 400,000 as it asserts itself in the men's magazine market. The young sibling publication of Condé Nast's Vogue launched as a test issue with 150,000 copies in 2005, followed by an official April 2006 launch at a rate base of 300,000.
 

US Weekly to launch style spin-off

The Washington Post Co. has purchased Foreign Policy magazine for an undisclosed sum. The bimonthly magazine has a circulation of 100,000 readers across the US and in more than 160 other countries.
